Media
How do you get ahead in all the media noise?

Have you ever wondered why some people get their message across and others don’t? There could be many reasons. Maybe you’re using the wrong methods, haven’t defined your target audience, maybe you’re simply not talking about your existence…
Or is it that the surrounding culture has completely changed?
Phil Cooke addresses this in his book ” Unique: Telling Your Story in the Age of Brands and Social Media “.
He points out some important questions that you need to ask yourself:
- What exactly needs to change? Is it just an update to the logo, website or other visual elements? Or is it an update to the identity and how it is perceived by others? Make sure you are aware of the difference.
- Is your logo simply out of date? First of all, your logo is not the same as your brand – it is the visual expression of your brand’s history. Maybe your “brand” and how it is perceived is fine, but your logo needs an update?
- How do people now view what you’re doing? What do people think of when they think of your church, business, or nonprofit? Having that knowledge can mean the difference between success and failure.
- Who do I get advice from? Make sure they understand the difference between marketing a church/nonprofit versus marketing a business. More than anything; make sure they know what they are talking about.
- What is your “One Big Thing”? Are you truly extraordinary at one thing or average at a lot of things? Knowing the difference will help you stand out from the crowd.
Phil Cooke is one of the producers of the film made about Hillsong – Let Hope Rise. He has coached some of the largest non-profit organizations in the world to success.
