This is one of the nicest activity tips if you want to do something before Christmas that arouses a little curiosity and thought. It is also something that you can do in small groups, as a family or plan to do it individually and collect the results.
- Look for stones that are even and round. Or buy suitable stones from a stone shop or hardware store. Decorative stones work well. You should be able to draw a small baby Jesus on the front and some suitable text on the back.
- Paint with waterproof paints. We tried making the black lines with waterproof marker. The problem was that we couldn’t varnish it because the varnish dissolved the marker.
- Paint the stones if you feel it is necessary.
- Decide what will be on the back. Some have simply attached a sticky note with a web address written on it.
- You can also use www.babyjesusrocks.com where there are life stories, Christmas carols and information about why we celebrate Christmas. It is in English and Swedish.
- Place the stones in suitable places. Keep in mind that they should blend in somehow. Perhaps on a walking path, a park or similar.
- Then only your imagination sets the limits. Some churches have had competitions where people have been asked to submit photos when they find a rock.
Earls Hall Baptist Church was featured in the BBC news when they placed 1000 Baby Jesus Rocks in Essex.
